Billionaire heiress Jessica Pegula loses Madrid Open & misses out on prize money

Offbeat news from the world of sport

Tennis star and billionaire heiress Jessica Pegula has been beaten in the Madrid Open final against Ons Jabeur.

Pegula, who is set to inherit a £4.7billion fortune from her businessman father and Buffalo Bills owner Terry, missed out on securing only the second WTA singles title of her career in a 5-7, 6-0, 2-6 defeat.

It means that the star will walk away with some £519,000 despite the defeat.

But that is nothing for Pegula, who earlier this year reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, as she is the heir to a £4.7billion family fortune earned by her father Terrence, currently the 434th richest person in the world.

Her family have such vast wealth that they also own a £60million superyacht that has room for up to 18 crew, as per

So far, the tennis pro has earned over £3million mark after her WTA 1000 final in Spain. But, of course, that is not a touch on the £3.6billion fortune her family has made from natural gas development.

Her father owns NFL giants Buffalo Bills, as well as various other franchises. As a result, Pegula is richer than the likes of superstars Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Maria Sharapova.

Pegula also launched her own company Ready24 – a form of skincare. On her business ventures, she- told Wide World of Sport: "When I was younger, it was more like I wanted to make a name for myself and then I realised as I got older, I should embrace the whole family aspect of it instead.

"It was almost hurting me in a way because it wasn't going to go away and I learned to embrace that, kind of have fun with it. Tennis my thing, it's my job, it's my career. It's very separate and my parents don't really have any say right now in anything I do on the court."

Other than their extravagant wealth, the Pegula family live a relatively private life in a mansion in Florida.
