Roman Reigns became Universal Champion at WWE Payback – in a hard-hitting triple-threat match that saw the ring collapse.

Reigns, who only returned to WWE last week after a five-month absence, picked up the win over Braun Strowman and The Fiend Bray Wyatt.

Accompanied by Paul Heyman, the former Shield member made short work of his night's exertions, too, only dropping in at the end of the match to effectively pick up the pieces.

By that point, Strowman and Wyatt had already torn each other to pieces, with the aid of tables, chairs, steel steps and a mallet.

One incredible moment between the two rivals saw The Fiend hit Strowman with a mammoth suplex – causing the entire ring to collapse, and referee Charles Robinson to fly out of the ring and on to the floor.

The clearly planned segment probably came off a little more comically than WWE had intended, but it did its job in showing how aggressively the two big-hitters were going about their business.

Other standout matches on the night saw father and son duo Rey and Dominik Mysterio beat Seth Rollins and Murphy.

The rivalry between Rey and Rollins has arguably been one of WWE's best in 2020 – including not least the moment Rollins appeared to gouge out his foe's eyeball.

Sasha Banks and Bayley lost their tag team titles to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax as their friendship continued to deteriorate, while Bobby Lashley became United States Champion by unseating Apollo Crews.

Keith Lee stunned Randy Orton to score a huge upset win less than a week after debuting on Monday Night Raw, with Big E also getting the better of Sheamus before Matt Riddle beat King Corbin.
