For the first time in his career, Chad Johnson is going to be stepping into the ring.
The former NFL player and Bengals star who was once known as Chad Ochocinco will be squaring off in a boxing match against Brian Maxwell. As part of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul undercard, Johnson’s presence will bring another celebrity into the fold for this star-studded event.
Johnson has never boxed before and called his fight with Maxwell a “one time thing” in a recent interview.
“I never thought about stepping in the ring,” Johnson said, per SBNation.com. “I never thought there would be an opportunity to do so. But I love boxing. I’m friends with every boxer out there because I love and study all of it.
“I didn’t expect anything like this to happen. When Floyd called, the first thing I wanted to know was how much time I had to prepare. Once I knew that I had enough time that I could look like myself in there, I knew I could pull it off.”
Indeed, Johnson has been preparing and at one point trained with the Charlo brothers for his fight against Maxwell. Maxwell is 0-3 in his boxing career but sports a 2-2 record in MMA fights. He clearly has the upper hand on his opponent from an experience standpoint, but will Johnson be able to make the fight interesting?
