Eddie Hearn reveals loophole that could accelerate Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua showdown

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has called for Tyson Fury and AJ to fight for the undisputed world heavyweight titles this summer and Kubrat Pulev may have to step aside to let the fight happen. Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder at the weekend to take hold of the WBC and Ring Magazine belts.

Joshua possesses the WBA, WBO and IBF straps and is due to defend them against mandatory challenger Pulev next.

But Hearn is keen for the fight with Fury to take place next, despite the Pulev bout being close to an agreement.

It’s expected that Joshua and the Bulgarian will fight on June 20 at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

But Hearn is hoping that Top Rank-promoted Pulev will be moved aside for Fury, who is also under the same promotional company.

“Fury was brilliant, and the tactics from [his trainers] Sugarhill Steward and Andy Lee were spot on,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“For me, we should go straight into AJ v Fury next. No one wants to see a third fight [between Fury and Wilder].

“Top Rank promote Pulev so this may be our chance to make sure it’s undisputed.”

Fury said after the bout, however, that he was sure Wilder would exercise his option to take a rematch.

“The spoils of war have just happened. Deontay needs time to recover but I’m almost sure he will take a rematch,” he said.

“I’m pretty sure we’ll do it again, if he wants to. If he doesn’t want to.

“Whoever’s next will get the same treatment.”

Fury put on a seven-round beatdown of Wilder, who was handed his first loss as a professional on Saturday night.

Fury knocked Wilder down twice before a flurry of punches in the corner forced the Bronze Bomber’s corner to throw the towel in.

Joshua predicted Fury would win, saying: “Fury can punch a bit. He’s underestimated with his punching power which makes him dangerous.

“If you underestimate someone it makes them dangerous because you don’t respect them until you get hit.”
