Footage of Amir Khan gunpoint robbery shows hero restaurant staff running to aid

An east London restaurant have released CCTV footage of their staff seconds after Amir Khan left the venue and was held at gunpoint. Staff at Sahara Grill in Leyton rushed outside to help the boxer when they realised he was in trouble.

On April 18, Amir, 35 and his wife Faryal Makhdoom, 30, were robbed at gunpoint, robbers took the boxer's diamond encrusted £72,000 watch before running off and getting into a waiting car.

In CCTV footage shared by the couple, Amir can be seen crossing the road with his wife a few steps behind before he was rushed towards.

As he reaches the other side, a group of robbers can be seen running towards him and pointing a gun at him, forcing him to give his expensive watch.

His wife Faryal steps back and crosses to the other side of the road, where the couple had been walking from.

The incident left the couple scared and speaking to ITV's Good Morning Britain, Amir said he felt "unsafe" in London because it's "very dangerous".

The owner of Sahara Grill has now shared what happened minutes before the incident, and revealed that with incidents like this happening fairly often, the restaurant staff are always ready to help anyone in need.

Speaking to MyLondon, co-owner Tahir Razzaq said: "This footage is taken from our cameras in the Sahara Grill Leyton branch on April 18, 2022 – at the time the dreadful incident with Amir Khan took place.

"As you can see from the video, our branch manager Monnar says good bye to Amir and Faryal at the door.

"After around 30 seconds another staff member noticed a gunman pointing a gun at Amir Khan and immediately alerted the store manager Monnar who both along with other Sahara Grill staff immediately ran out to his aid.

"When we asked one of our employee how come you ran to Amir Khans aid knowing the robbers had guns.

He replied: “I did not go out because it was Amir Khan, I ran out to help because I know he has three kids. We are grateful and proud of having such employees, who always put our customers first."
