It was an unlikely love story without a happy ending.

When MMA star Tito Ortiz began dating Jenna Jameson in 2006, it appeared a match made in heaven for the media, if not the couple themselves.

However, Ortiz and the most infamous adult film star in history originally defied the doubters by publicly declaring their love – with Jameson duly giving up her work in the porn industry. Ortiz even rejected an invite to be guest of honour at the United States Marine Corps ball when he was denied permission to take Jameson as a guest.

In 2009, the pair welcomed twin boys, but just four years later they were to split following a tempestuous period of domestic violence, drug use, and lavish spending.

The narrative pedalled by the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion is a simple one, essentially that Jameson, 47, blew more than £8million on drugs after becoming addicted to OxyCotins.

Ortiz, 46, had never made any secret of being scarred by visions of his parents using heroin when he was a child, with his mother only kicking the habit after her son was nearly shot dead by a rival gang.

After persistently trying to help Jameson solve her own addiction, Ortiz walked away in 2016 and was granted full custody of the two boys, Jesse Jameson and Journey Jett.

In an interview with Vlad TV in 2019, 'The Huntington Beach Bad Boy' revealed his former partner had not seen their children for six years.

Jameson wasn't the only one who came under scrutiny during the relationship though, with Ortiz arrested on charges of domestic violence in April 2010.

A bitter war of blame would follow, with Jameson, seen in public with a bandaged arm, claiming Ortiz had been abusive while he countered the claim by putting the dispute down to her drug use.

The charges were dropped the following month, but even after the couple split, wild accusations would continue.

Following the split, Jameson continued to appear at UFC events, regularly goading her ex by offering opinions on his choice of opponent.

However, in 2019, she appeared to offer an olive branch to Ortiz, having had a third child, daughter Batel, with current partner Lior Bitton.

“I have a great respect for him and pray for him a lot," she said. "Our past was rocky, but [there’s] nothing we can’t overcome for our children.”

As it stands, it's a notion that's yet to ring true. With the volatile past from America's once unlikely glamour couple still seemingly too big a barrier for harmony.
