Tyson Fury coach reveals Anthony Joshua snub in three-fight plan after Deontay Wilder win

Tyson Fury may have another two fights before he steps into the ring with Anthony Joshua, according to coach Andy Lee. The 31-year-old sought the advice of Lee after axing ex-trainer Ben Davison.

Lee teamed up with SugarHill Steward and they helped Fury defeat Deontay Wilder via a seventh-round stoppage on Saturday night.

Fury secured the WBC world heavyweight title with a bruising win over the American on his own soil.

A rematch clause was inserted into the contract so Wilder is expected to trigger a trilogy fight.

But if Fury emerges successful once more then a mouthwatering unification bout with Joshua is the showdown all boxing fans desire.

However, Lee thinks there would likely be another clash before the Battle of Britain because of Fury’s five-fight ESPN deal.

“Tyson said he has three more fights in his contract and he wanted Wilder again after this one, maybe somebody else and then Joshua,” Lee told Off The Ball.

“He has always stuck to his word. Why not? These fights should happen.

“Tyson is the best heavyweight in the world and the next best challenger is Anthony Joshua, he should be stepping up to fight him.

“I don’t see why not and I don’t see there being any fear from Tyson.

“These things are very complicated and there is so much money involved in how it’s split and where it goes to.

  • Eddie Hearn reveals Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight talks commenced

“These fights can be very hard to make but if there is a willingness from both fighters for it to happen then usually they do.

“All the talk and all the tweeting, if they really want it it can happen.”

Meanwhile, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has already put the wheels in motion to get the fight sorted.

“[Fury’s] promoted by Bob Arum predominantly,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “Frank Warren is also involved, MTK are his management company. I’ve spoke to Top Rank and I’ve spoke to MTK straight after the fight.

“Everybody is very clear on this. Everybody wants this fight – Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, MTK, Top Rank, Frank Warren, Matchroom.

“There are some hurdles to overcome on the broadcasting, but nothing too much.

“I promise you this fight will happen. If we have to fight (Kubrat) Pulev, we’ve got to beat Pulev, and if he has to fight Wilder, he’s got to beat Wilder again.

“Both of those things will happen. Fury will beat Wilder again and Joshua will knock Pulev clean out, despite Bob Arum telling us very differently.”
