UFC sell sleepy Conor McGregor toy as Dustin Poirier defeat jibes continue

The UFC has begun selling Conor McGregor toys in his infamous ‘sleepy’ pose following his defeat to Dustin Poirier.

McGregor faced Poirier in a rematch of their 2014 bout at UFC 257 where the Irishman lost via technical knockout in the second round – the first knockout loss of his career.

He took on Poirier for a third time on July 10 2021 at UFC 264, with McGregor losing once again via TKO after the ringside doctor ended the fight prematurely because the 33-year-old had suffered a broken tibia.

He was unable to continue – and now it appears the UFC are selling a ‘sleepy’ Conor toy to mimic his loss.

The MMA company’s website, which sells merchandise, allows fans to buy an official Kokies figure of McGregor for £30.

They are advertising the ‘Notorious’ toy in a variety of poses, including one with McGregor lying flat on his back.

“Kokies by Bait reimagines the ever-iconic Irish warrior Conor McGregor morphed into a toy variation with his signature smirk smile,” reads the description for the controversial vinyl figure.

The website allows fans to buy a gold version for an added £5.

It appears to be a callback to McGregor’s January defeat to Poirier which led to the posting of many memes online.

Both American fighter Poirier and controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul took to social media to mock McGregor when images were released of him on the canvas.

Content creator Paul even ordered a custom pendant to immortalise McGregor’s pose – worth £73,000 – and sent it to Poirier as a reward for defeating the UFC legend in the second of their three bouts.

Poirier, who has a record of 28-6 and is currently ranked as the best lightweight in the world, said he would auction the pendant for charity.

However, the new 4.25-inch toy sold online by the UFC appears to be the best chance for fans to own their own piece of McGregor history.

It remains to be seen whether the product is intentionally poking fun at the Irishman’s defeat but the connection can certainly be made.
