UFC star jokes he only shook hands with glam ring girls to see ‘boobs bounce’

UFC star Paulo Costa has joked he only shook hands with glam ring girls to see their "boobs bounce".

The 16-2 MMA star recently posted a video clip on Twitter of his ceremonial weigh-in at UFC 278 back in August. Footage shows an exuberant Costa making his way to the stage while shaking hands with four UFC ring girls along the way, much to the amusement of fight fans on social media at the time.

But the Brazilian has since gone further in explaining his unique decision to shake their hands prior to claiming a Fight of the Night bonus.

He pointed out in a cheeky tweet: “People think I was greeting. I was just shaking for the boobs to bounce.”

The 31-year-old’s appreciation for scantily-clad ring girls comes as a direct contrast to the criticism they have received in recent times, most notably from UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov who labelled them the "most useless people in martial arts".

Costa went on to beat Luke Rockhold by unanimous decision on the night in question following his return as a middleweight.

But the hard-hitting Belo Horizonte native recently teased a switch to boxing due to what he called a "miserable" UFC contract. ‘Borrachinha’ is set to fight Robert Whittaker at UFC 284 on February 12 but claimed it could be his last under the promotion.

He tweeted on Thursday: “My miserable contract with the UFC was up in a few short months. will expire in time. A new #boxer is coming to town!”

Costa had explained after his win over Rockhold: “I have one more, I didn’t know, I thought this was the last one but I have one more.

"I’m looking forward to being a free agent for sure, I will not lie to you. I (thought) this was the last one of this contract.

“I really believe it’s not just for me, it’s for everybody. I’m on a high, high level, fighting the best of this division and my contract is too old.”
