Young boxer Frank Varey dies as Tyson Fury leads tributes to "future star"

Boxers Hopey Price and Tyson Fury have led tributes to teen fight star Frank Varey following his death.

Price took to Instagram and Facebook to pay tribute to Varey, who is understood to be 16-years-old.

He said: "RIP kid, you'll never be forgotten, legends never die.

"Cruel world we live in everyone pray for all his family."

Fury also took to Instagram in an Instagram story, saying: "RIP Frank. Was a future world champ."

Varey had been touted for big things and he had won the National Championships at every time of asking.

Between 2014-2019 Varey won the Junior National Championships for his weight class, and his brother, Thomas Varey, became National Champion in 2020.

And Price led the tributes – that poured in via social media for the "future star" – by sharing a photo of the pair.

He added it was "heartbreaking" in a story on his Instagram page, before adding "Rest Easy Champ" on Facebook.

Priory PARK Boxing Club said in a Facebook post: "A very promising young boxer Frank Varey from Sharpstyle ABC has passed away today.

"Watched him box many times in box cups and championships and he was a future star.

"Prayers to him and his family from all at Priory Park. RIP Champ."

"It is with great sadness to learn of the untimely death of one England boxing super stars in the ring Young Frankie Varey," St Paul's Antrim A.B.C, a boxing club from Belfast, added.

"Rest in peace Frank Varey condolences to his family, friends & Sharpstyle boxing club prays are with yous all from myself and everyone at St Paul's boxing club Belfast."

"He had the privilege of sharing the ring with our own talent Dylan Eagleson. Rest in peace champ."

"Can’t believe I’m saying this Rest In Peace Frank Varey he would always complement me on my boxing and was a great boxer himself," a third added.

Another added about the young man: "Heartbroken is a true understatement the boxing world will be in bits [about] this lad.

"Because he still is the most beautiful boy in and out of boxing game talented amazing personality the full package."
