Duke will not allow fans at men’s and women’s basketball games due to COVID-19

Duke's women's and men's basketball games will be played without fans in attendance at Cameron Indoor Stadium this winter due to the dangers of COVID-19, the school announced in a release sent to USA TODAY Sports and other media outlets on Tuesday.

No winter sports at Duke will have fans in attendance, and games played on campus will only include essential management personnel and broadcast media.

“As Duke University continues to be an industry leader per providing a safe environment for intercollegiate athletic competition, the decision to maintain our non-spectator protocol is imperative for the overall health and safety of the Blue Devil fan base, student-athletes, coaches and support staff, notwithstanding the immediate campus population comprised of students, faculty and staff,” vice president and director of athletics Kevin White said in the release.
