Michael Vick turns 40. Here’s a flashback to some his most electric runs in NFL

Despite spending two years of his prime out of the league, Michael Vick still became the best quarterback to rush the football over the course of his career.

When he retired in 2017 (his last game had come two years earlier), his 6,109 rushing yards ranked first among QBs, and his 7.0 yards per carry is first all-time — among all players.

First with the Atlanta Falcons and then the Philadelphia Eagles, Vick's running prowess added a different element to the game, even though his left arm was more than proficient and led to a multitude of highlights in its own right. He was a weapon in open space, one who could leave a defender flailing with one step and then a stiff-arm the next. His Madden caricature remains legendary to this day.

Vick is celebrating his 40th birthday Friday. To celebrate, here are some of the lefty's most electric runs from his NFL days:

Michael Vick's best runs

To start, perhaps Vick's most iconic run:

In this 2006 run against New Orleans, six Saints defenders throw themselves at Vick as he zooms buy. Only one is partially successful.

In 2001, against the Miami Dolphins, Vick had more than one lucrative scramble. Here's his best, though.

Has anyone sold a handoff that hard before or since? Vick almost waited too long, but his quickness was unmatched.

His scramble against the Packers during the '04 playoffs, when he shoved Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila:

Plenty more of Vick's runs were worthy of inclusion in this post. Head down a YouTube rabbit-hole of your own.
