Patriots RB James White’s father killed in car accident

New England Patriots running back James White is inactive for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks after his father, Tyrone White, was killed in an automobile accident Sunday.

Tyrone White was a captain of the Miami-Dade Police Department and died as a result of an off-duty traffic crash in Broward Couty, according to MDPD Director Alfredo Ramirez. White's mother Lisa remains in the hospital. The accident is actively being investigated by the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

I’m extremely saddened after learning of the passing of MDPD Captain Tyrone White earlier today as a result of an off-duty traffic crash in Broward County. I offered his family my deepest condolences on behalf of his MDPD family. May he rest in eternal peace. 1/2….

Please continue to keep his wife Lisa in your thoughts and prayers as well. She remains hospitalized as a result of the crash. https://t.co/66kmjTmX9L

White, 28, in his seventh season with the Patriots, was surprisingly placed on the team's inactive list ahead of Sunday night's game before reports of his father's death surfaced.

At the start of Sunday's game, NBC broadcasters reported that Patriots owner Robert Kraft offered to fly White to Miami, but White decided he will fly home with the rest of the team.

Patriots safety Devin McCourty celebrated a first-quarter touchdown by looking into the camera and saying "Two-eight! We love you, bro!"
