Max Verstappen’s song ’Super Max’ continues to soar in popularity after the Dutchman spectacularly secured his maiden Formula 1 world championship on Sunday. He won the title in dramatic and controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend.

Both he and title rival Lewis Hamilton went into the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit tied on points.

The Dutchman passed the seven-time world champion – who had dominated for much of the race – on the final lap after a late safety car and tyre change swung momentum in his favour.

He made the move on the Brit early in the lap and held on to secure the first championship of his career.

Verstappen is known for being a popular driver with a devoted fanbase, with his ‘Oranje Army’ often raucous in their support of the 24-year-old.

After he won the championship in dramatic circumstances, Verstappen’s fans have taken it to new heights with their new song, called ‘Super Max’ by the Pitstop Boys.

WTF1 (@wtf1official) posted a photo to social media of the United Kingdom’s trending charts with a caption.

“’Super Max’ is currently number 2 in the UK Viral Spotify charts and 5th in the Global chart,” wrote WTF1 on Twitter.

While WTF1 clearly indicate the popularity of the song spreads beyond the UK given it is fifth in Spotify’s Global chart, it is particularly popular in the Netherlands.

One user – @angelique020x1 – highlighted that the song is number one back in the driver’s home country.

Verstappen, who was born in Hasselt, Belgium, became the first Dutch world champion in F1 history when he pipped Hamilton to the finish line in Abu Dhabi.

Despite the controversy surrounding the finale, Verstappen was a deserving champion after leading for more laps and securing more pole positions and Grand Prix wins than any other driver.

The Dutchman led for 652 laps across the season, but he only led for one all-important lap in Abu Dhabi – the final one.

While celebrating on the Red Bull yacht, Verstappen was seen to be dancing to the ‘Super Max’ song before returning to the track in gold trainers as part of F1 testing.

F1 will return in 2022 for preseason testing on February 23 before the first race will be held in Bahrain on March 20.
