9 footballers who dated female players – Brazil icon to Harry Redknapp favourite

The old saying goes that you shouldn't mix business with pleasure – but many footballers have ignored that over the years.

Although they may not play against each other, male and female players both share the same passion for the beautiful game and sometimes their paths can cross.

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz and Villa Women's star Alisha Lehmann have proven that after uploading an intimate image sharing a kiss on Instagram.

The pair are not the first club mates to hook up, while some have found love with their fellow international players on the men's and women's teams.

Daily Star Sport are taking a look at nine of those football couples.

Ronaldo and Milene Domingues

The first lovers on this list have a combined 118 caps for Brazil so definitely fit the bill of a 'power couple'.

The iconic R9 married midfielder Milene Domingues in December 1999, with their child Ronald being born the following year.

A couple of years before they had met, Domingues, then aged 17, had broke the women’s world record for the most consecutive keepy-uppies, juggling the ball 55,187 times in a row.

And she broke another world record when Atletico Madrid signed her for £200k in 2002, which remains the second most expensive women's transfer ever.

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, she couldn't keepy-uppy with their marriage, and they divorced shortly after Domingues had played at the 2003 World Cup.

Servando Carrasco and Alex Morgan

Would you ever consider mixing business with pleasure? Let us know in the comments section.

Alex Morgan is to the United States what Ronaldo was to Brazil, and they both decided to keep football in their family.

Morgan, who has a ridiculous 115 goals in 190 international matches, met former LA Galaxy midfielder Servando Carrasco early on in her career when playing for the same club as him.

They married in December 2014 and had their first child in May 2020.

Dom Dwyer and Sydney Leroux

Both forwards, both play for Orlando Pirates and have both represented the US – Dom Dwyer and Sydney Leroux seemed like the perfect couple.

Their six-year marriage was recently ended, though, simultaneously breaking the hearts of thousands of Americans.

Leroux had twice followed Dwyer to a team, while he had turned down offers from Europe to stay with her and their two children.

Alphonso Davies and Jordyn Huitema

Canadian sweethearts Alphonso Davies and Jordyn Huitema are the latest footballing couple to sweep onto the scene.

And both are killing it, with Davies, 21, majorly impressing with Bayern Munich and Huitema, 20, breaking through at Paris Saint-Germain.

They have a shared YouTube channel where they share their life with more than 700k subscribers.

Jose Batista and Allie Long

The US women's team certainly have a reputation for dating fellow footballers, with 51-cap Allie Long having married the lesser-known Jose Batista.

He did play for Sevilla – just the one in Puerto Rico and not Spain.

They're in a very long-term relationship and married in October 2016, holding a wedding at which the aforementioned Morgan was a bridesmaid.

Fabrice Guatrat and Morgan Brian

There must be something in the water in the States because the Americans just keep coming on this list.

Fabrice Guatrat, like Batista, only ever played lower league football, but his wife Morgan Brian has 87 US caps to her name and is a two-time World Cup winner

Hans Eskilsson and Malin Swedberg

Hans Eskilsson had a journeyman career which featured a season with Hearts in Scotland and eight caps for Sweden.

His wife, Malin Swedberg, enjoyed a lot more playing time for their country, though, racking up 78 appearances and is now a pundit on Swedish TV.

They have two sons, one of whom, 17-year-old Williot, is also a professional footballer.

Claudio Reyna and Danielle Egan

Former Manchester City midfielder Claudio Reyna is one of the best men's players the United States has produced.

And his wife Danielle, whom he married in 1997, also played for her country on six occasions.

They have had four children with one of their sons, Gio, now playing for Borussia Dortmund.

Their first child, Jack, tragically passed in 2012 after a fight with brain cancer.

Hermann Hreidarsson and Ragna Loa Stefansdottir

Hermann Hreidarsson, who became somewhat of a cult hero at Portsmouth under Harry Redknapp, was another to find love with a fellow footballer.

He and Ragna Loa Stefansdottir, who won 35 Iceland caps, married and had two children before getting a divorce in 2018.

"I know some footballers' wives are not very interested in football, but Ragna is different," he previously told The Sun. "I don't know any other footballer who married a player!"

Well Hermann, I hope you've been reading this list.
