- Di Maria is pleased he stayed and wants to deliver PSG European glory
Angel Di Maria says he is pleased he didn’t join Barcelona when they tried to sign him three years ago and says he is ‘very happy’ at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentine winger was linked to the Spanish club when Brazilian star Neymar moved to France in the summer of 2017.
However, PSG didn’t want to sell Di Maria, formerly of Barca’s rivals Real Madrid, and the deal collapsed – but not before the player was apparently deceived.

Barcelona moved for Ousmane Dembele of Borussia Dortmund instead with their world record £198million Neymar windfall.
‘I was very happy in Paris, but people at the club at the time told me some things, which turned out to be lies in the end,’ Di Maria told French newspaper L’Equipe.
‘Barca tried to get me to come. The two clubs discussed it, but PSG did not want to sell me and it ended there.
‘These lies annoyed me a lot but, in the end, not leaving was a good thing because I am very happy in Paris today.’
Di Maria, 32, enjoyed an excellent season for PSG before the French league was cancelled amid the Covid-19 outbreak, recording 11 goals and 21 assists in 37 matches in all competitions.
Di Maria leads the celebrations after PSG beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League
The Parisians advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which are scheduled to be played in August, after beating Borussia Dortmund.
His contract at the Parc des Princes expires next summer, but Di Maria would be open to an extension and wishes to add to his Champions League success while at Real.
‘I want to end my career in Europe with PSG, that is the only thing I want and have in mind,’ he said.
‘I’m happy here, my family is too. As for the rest, I don’t know for the moment.
‘No discussions have been initiated and this is not my intention at this time. I want to focus on the field, the rest will come later.

‘It would be amazing to win it [the Champions League] again. Not only to win the trophy but because of the affection I have for the club and for its supporters.
‘I have the feeling that over the past two seasons, I have won the respect of the supporters.
‘Mentally, it changed a lot when I felt they encouraged me more, that they sang for me. It gave me a lot of strength, I try to thank them for what I do on the field.
‘If I could bring them the Champions League before leaving, it would be perfect to end our story.’
