Arsenal have started their summer transfer business early as they look to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Mikel Arteta has promised to add to his team, having finished eighth in the Premier League with no European football, saying: “They're going to get better and they're going to strengthen, so we need to get better.”
It seems the Gunners will have spaces to fill, with defender David Luiz being given a farewell by his team after the 2-0 win against Brighton.
While Real Madrid midfielders Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard look set for a return to the Bernabeu following their loan spells.
It has seen Arsenal reportedly get the ball rolling early – and Daily Star Sport has summarised the headlines you need to know…
The Brighton midfielder appears to be a big target for the Gunners, especially after his photo with Nicolas Pepe following the Seagull’s North London defeat.
When the Malian told Graham Potter he wanted to leave, it seemed that Arteta would have a transfer battle on his hands with Liverpool.
While the Reds’ acquisition of Ibrahima Konate appears to have made Bissouma less demanding, the south-coast side’s chief executive Paul Barber gave Arsenal positive news to go alongside the clear route to his signature.
The Brighton chief said: “We know some of our best players aren't going to be with us forever and, if the right offer comes along – and it has to be the right offer – and they want to leave, then they can go.”
Arteta makes Coutinho decision
Arsenal’s biggest transfer priority last summer was Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho, following uncertainty on whether Ronald Koeman would include the midfielder in his plans.
With just 14 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign due to injury, though, it has been reported that the Brazilian will lead an exodus at the Nou Camp.
But transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arteta is “not interested” in signing the midfielder this time round.
Arsenal want Szczesny reunion
Bernd Leno has been given little competition between the posts, missing just nine games this season against Alex Runarsson and Mathew Ryan.
While speculation had emerged of a move for Brentford shot-stopper David Raya, Italian outlet La Gazzette [via TuttoJuve] have reported that they want a reunion with Wojciech Szczesny.
The goalkeeper has been on the books at Juventus since leaving Arsenal in 2017 but could be heading out the door in wholesale changes following the sacking of Andrea Pirlo.
With the club pursuing AC Milan’s out-of-contract Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Gunners are expected to ‘come forward’ in days for their former Polish goalkeeper.
