Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno thinks Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang holds the key to the Gunners’ summer transfer strategy.
Club captain and top goalscorer Aubameyang is out of contract at the end of the 2020/21 season.
And there have been many suggestions that he could leave the Emirates Stadium this summer instead of leaving on a free transfer next year.
But with football currently in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic, there are mounting issues surrounding both transfers and player contracts.
It is not known just when the current season will end and the new one begins, but Leno thinks that whatever happens at Arsenal it will be Aubameyang who holds the key.
Gunners players are currently self-isolating at home after their manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for coronavirus last week, and speaking as he conducted a Q&A session with fans on his esports channel, Leno gave his thoughts on Aubameyang’s future and the Gunners’ transfer plans.
“I’m not sure, it depends who’s going to leave and who stays. I don’t know,” he said when asked if he thinks Arsenal will bring new players in.
“I think it depends if Auba signs a new contract or he leaves.
