Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang went to extreme lengths as he made sure he avoided a repeat of his FA Cup gaffe.
Aubameyang helped Arsenal win the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday, scoring the final penalty of the shootout having also netted during the 90 minutes.
The Gunners faced Liverpool having won the FA Cup earlier this month with Aubameyang suffering a nightmare as he dropped the cup on that occasion.
He avoided a repeat on the Wembley pitch this time around and was being extra cautious with the big shield as Arsenal made their way back home on the team coach.
“Guys, very, very important, the seat belt, it's important,” Aubameyang said in between laughs, showing the Community Shield strapped in next to him on the team bus on his Instagram story. “Then I can't drop it!”
Aubameyang shone despite his Arsenal future still hanging over his head with his Emirates contract expiring next summer.
He said: “I feel very good. Ainsley [Maitland-Niles] was the man of the match, I'm really happy for him, he deserves it and today we deserved the win. We're going to take this trophy and hopefully this time I don't drop it.
“We are improving and yes there is still work to do but we are really happy and it's a really exciting time to be at this football club.
“I think we played it well. He did a fantastic action, starting from the back, then Bukayo gave me the ball and then I chose to go for it on my right foot, shoot and then it went it.
“We will see [on signing a new deal]. We will see in the next few days. Today we take the trophy.”
