Gabriel Magalhaes is almost an Arsenal player.
The 22-year-old is said to have completed his medical after personal terms were met and the Gunners agreed a fee with Lille.
The club are set to announce his move later on this week, and the deal which will cost the club £27m, is set to last five years in a show of faith.
Boss Mikel Arteta had made no secret of his desire to improve his playing squad before his first full season as boss at the Emirates, and Gabriel is set to follow his countryman Willian in making the switch.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano offered the fresh update on Wednesday, and he stated that the contract until 2025 has been signed and agreed with the agents of Gabriel – and that the announcement is currently being planned.
Arteta had said back in June: “We have to put a plan to improve our squad, that’s first, fulfil the ambitions that we have, have the right players to support the talented young players that we have.
“They are still in the very early stages of their development and we have to know that, but we don’t have time.
"The demands of this football club are huge and we cannot stay still. We have to change things, we have to improve them.
“The most important thing is not about keeping [players], it is about improving them, convince them of what we are trying to do and get them performing and winning football matches.”
Lille president Gerard Lopez explained earlier this month that the defender would be allowed to find a new club this summer, and revealed that he was not short of offers.
In a chat with Sky Sports, he said: "It's true that he would like to go and try something else out. We haven't taken that decision yet, but he's received a number of offers.
“I feel he's closer to one club than others, but nothing's done yet so we'll see.

"I wouldn't want to say any more as I respect the player too much.
“The mechanism I have in place, and we saw that work so well with Nico [Nicolas Pepe], is that I have a certain price in mind for a player, and at the end of the day it's the player's choice to go and play where he wants to play – that's the respect that I have for them.
“I feel he is among the top five dominant central defenders in Europe right now.
“His statistics, which aren't well covered outside of France, shows that his percentage for winning duels is pretty unheard of in a league that's extremely physical.”
