Arsenal set to make huge loss on £75m flop Pepe with four clubs ‘interested’

Arsenal are expected to make a huge loss on club record signing Nicolas Pepe as four clubs circle over the Ivory Coast international.

Pepe has proven to be a disaster since arriving at the Gunners from Lille in 2019 for a fee of £75million. He started just five Premier League games last season as he fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta, with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli all ahead of him in the pecking order.

His lowly status in Arteta's plans means that Arsenal are now ready to sell him, despite there being two years remaining on his contract. Pepe has failed to adapt to life in the Premier League, with a move abroad appearing to be the most likely outcome.

According to Diario de Sevilla, La Liga side Sevilla have already begun talks with Arsenal to enquire over Pepe's status. His salary presents an issue to Sevilla, with Pepe needing to lower his current £100,000 per week demands if a move is to happen.

There is also a question over the fee, with Sevilla only prepared to pay £15million for the 27-year-old. Arsenal are holding out for around £10m more, for a combined fee in the region of £25m.

Whichever fee is closest to the one that the Gunners eventually accept, it would be a massive loss on a player who was only bought three years ago. But Sevilla are not the only club interested in signing the winger.

Marseille and Lyon are both keen to bring him back to France, where his performances for Lille earned him the big-money move to Arsenal. Leeds are also eyeing a move as they seek a replacement for Raphinha, who has joined Barcelona.

Pepe has become one of the Whites' options to take the Brazilian's place at Elland Road. Whichever club wins the race to sign the winger, none of the current frontrunners have the ability to hand Arsenal a significant recover on the massive fee they paid for him in 2019.
