Arsenal transfer round-up – Jorginho dismisses interest as new boy hails Partey

The focus for Arsenal over the next few weeks will be on the Premier League, with Mikel Arteta’s squad sufficiently improved this summer.

Thomas Partey is the latest addition, signed for £45million from Atletico Madrid on deadline day.

The Ghanaian midfielder is expected to be Arsenal ’s final signing, until January at least, though the domestic transfer window remains open until Friday.

There could yet be a couple of exits for players considered surplus to requirements, but some may be more difficult to shift than others.

Here are all the latest rumours from the Emirates.

Partey signing a statement of intent, says fellow new arrival

New Arsenal goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has hailed the signing of Thomas Partey.

The Gunners completed a deal for the midfielder on deadline day after weeks of speculation.

And Runarsson, who joined the club from French side Dijon last month, admitted he was “excited” by the arrival of Partey.

“I was so excited because it shows everybody the ambition that the club has: that we want to go back to compete for the Premier League and Champions League,” he told Goal.

“We want to take part in all the major competitions, and not just take part but win. To sign Thomas, it just shows the world what we are all about.”

Chelsea midfielder dismissed Arsenal interest

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho had no intention of joining Arsenal, according to AreaNapoli.

The 28-year-old was linked with a switch to the Emirates towards the end of the transfer window, with Mikel Arteta eager to bring in a playmaker.

Juventus were also said to be interested in the Italian but Jorginho was reportedly determined to stay at Chelsea, and talks over a new contract at Stamford Bridge could begin soon.

Arsenal instead opted to sign Thomas Partey on deadline day.

Mikel Arteta might look to keep Emile Smith Rowe at the club this season, claim Goal.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Huddersfield and has been linked with a return to the Championship side.

But Arsenal could give Smith Rowe some game time in the Europa League with a view to involving the youngster in the first team more often.

“He’s a player with very specific qualities to play in those pockets in that position as an attacking midfielder,” Arteta told Sky Sports in July.

“I am excited to work with him. I have been talking with him and I have followed him during his spell on loan.

“I think he’s someone who can be pretty impressive. I’m pleased by what I’ve seen from him. He needed that exposure and he looks more mature now.

“I think he will be in a much better place when he comes back in pre-season.”
