Oscar Mingueza has revealed that the Barcelona squad ‘stopped trusting’ Ronald Koeman towards the end of his 14-month tenure at the Nou Camp.
Koeman was fired on the flight back from a 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano in October after guiding the club to their worst start since the 1987-88 campaign.
The Barcelona defender said that the squad ‘dynamic’ under Koeman was off and that the players ‘lacked self-belief’ due to the Dutchman.

Speaking to Esport3 about life under Koeman, Mingueza said: ‘The dressing room needed a change. There was no atmosphere. Players were not happy. And when you’re not well and things don’t turn out, you need a change.
‘The team stopped trusting [Koeman’s methods] and everyone tried to fix things on their own. We weren’t good, neither individually nor collectively.
‘When the dynamics aren’t good, everyone does what they can but we lacked self-belief.’
Mingueza was involved in an awkward encounter with Koeman during Barcelona’s 5-2 victory over Getafe at the Nou Camp in April.

Koeman was seen screaming at Mingueza from the sideline and substituted the Spanish defender with 15 minutes to go.
Koeman was frustrated with Mingueza because he darted off to join the Barcelona attack and left his position in the back three when the scoreline was at 3-2.
However, it was when Mingueza approached the bench that things got really awkward. The Barcelona defender tried to shake Koeman’s hand but his manager was having none of it.
Koeman bypassed Mingueza and even pushed him away when the defender pulled him back for a chat.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Mingueza felt the players had little self belief under the former manager.
Nevertheless, Mingueza is confident that Xavi (above) will have an instant impact on the Nou Camp side as they head into their first game under his reign this weekend

Speaking of the new dynamic, Mingueza said: ‘Xavi’s training is very focused on the idea of what we want to do on the pitch.
‘It is good that we have a clear idea and that we all work in a specific way to obtain a good result as a team.
‘I’m sure things will change and get better now. And I don’t think we’ll have to wait two or three months to see those changes. Starting this weekend, we’ll see new things.’
