  • Junior only signed for Barcelona from Real Betis last summer in £16m deal

Barcelona ‘are prepared to sell Junior Firpo after just one season’ and potentially use him as a makeweight in a deal for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentina striker is inching closer to a Nou Camp move having enjoyed an impressive season for Antonio Conte’s Inter team in which he has scored 16 goals.

And, according to Spanish newspaper Sport, Barca are prepared to offer left-back Junior to Inter as part of any deal.

Left-back Junior was only signed from Real Betis last summer but could be on his way to Italy

Junior, 23, joined Barcelona from Real Betis for £16.2million, plus a potential further £9m in add-ons, just last summer but has failed to nail down a first-team place.

He has featured in 17 matches, starting nine in La Liga and three in the Champions League, but Jordi Alba has been preferred in the majority of games with Ruben Semedo also occasionally slotting in.

And despite a contract that takes him through until 2024, reports in Spain suggest Barcelona are willing to sell him for £18m with Italy the most likely destination.

Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has been linked with a move to Barcelona in the next window

Sport say Roma, Napoli and Torino are also interested in Junior if he isn’t used in the mission to bring Lautaro to Barcelona.

Martinez, 22, has scored 11 goals in Serie A and five in the Champions League as Inter have challenged for the title for the first time in some years.

When the coronavirus pandemic signalled a halt to football in Italy, Conte’s team were third in the table, some nine points behind leaders Juventus, having lost their two most recent matches.
