Bayern Munich have been urged to keep hold of Thiago Alcantara this summer after his “fantastic” display in the Champions League final win over Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night.

The German champions claimed a sixth European Cup crown with a hard-fought 1-0 win against the Ligue 1 side in Lisbon, with Spaniard Thiago one of the best players on the pitch.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer amid speculation that he is happy to leave Bayern.

Thiago has one year left on his contract and is believed to be available for as little as £30million.

But former Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves has told the Bavarian side to do all they can to keep hold of him for a little while longer.

Speaking on BT Sport after the Champions League final, he said: “They have got to keep Thiago, he is so important and he was fantastic.

“Liverpool fans would have been watching that saying yes please.”

It is thought that the Reds are interested in Thiago but remain reluctant to pay his asking price with him being available on a free next year.

Arsenal are also believed to have enquired about the 29-year-old as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield for next season.

Meanwhile, Hargreaves praised Bayern manager Hansi Flick for the massive impact he has had one the team since taking over.

Victory over PSG means that Bayern end their season with a 21st win in a row with Flick delivering a treble in his first year.

Hargreaves said: “They have win 21 wins in a row, it wasn't the game we expected but Flick has found the big decisions at the right moments. Neuer and Thiago were outstanding.

“Bayern have more depth. If Mbappe and Neymar don't step up, who does? no one. But that is not the case at Bayern.

“He [Flick] has gone in and turned this team into a machine, everybody is blown away. The football has blown everyone away. He has brought everyone together.”

Bayern will go into next season as the team to beat in Germany and Europe and will likely be even stronger after adding Leroy Sane to their roster after his move from Manchester City.
