BBC confirm Gary Lineker to lead World Cup with Micah Richards among pundits

    The BBC have announced their punditry team for the 2022 World Cup with Gary Lineker headlining a star-studded line-up alongside Micah Richards.

    Broadcasting the quadrennial tournament directly from Qatar, Lineker will lead the action as the main presenter with Gabby Logan also drafted in to anchor programmes on a matchday. The BBC will showcase the opening game at the Al Bayt Stadium when the hosts take on Ecuador in Group A on Sunday, November 20.

    Regular Match of the Day a-lister Alan Shearer will also be in attendance to offer his insight on proceedings with MOTD podcast co-host Micah Richards also making the trip to the Middle East.

    Ex-England internationals Rio Ferdinand, Jermaine Jenas, and Alex Scott will also be around for their expertise on Gareth Southgate's side, whose opening game is currently scheduled for November 21st against Iran.

    "For Qatar 2022, the BBC will unite across TV, radio and online to deliver our most comprehensive and holistic World Cup offering yet," said Barbara Slater, the director of BBC Sport. "England’s opener, Wales’ key game against Iran and the huge home nations clash between Wales and England are all exclusively live on the BBC.

    "Our non-stop coverage and content will be brought to viewers and listeners by an unrivalled squad of the best presenters, ex-players and experts. Together, they will offer all football fans the very best insight, commentary, analysis and entertainment."

    Former Wales stars Danny Gabbidon, Ashley Williams and Liverpool icon Ian Rush are expected to be in the studio for England's crunch clash with the Dragons on November 29.

    Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Didier Drogba, Laura Georges, Mark Schwarzer and Gilberto Silva complete the line-up with the BBC set to broadcast 33 World Cup matches, including the final on December 18.
