The Bundesliga could start again as early as May 9.
Politicians have suggested games could begin in less than three weeks after proposals from the German FA.
German Minister Markus Soder said: “The prerequisite is that there is a well thought-out concept.
“What the DFL have presented shows that protective measures are in place. I could imagine that we can go back to the state of games behind closed doors.
“It is a tightrope walk. We now have to be careful not to overdo it or be frivolous. Games with audience participation are completely unthinkable. Games behind closed doors are also a tightrope walk.
“It is conceivable that we might be able to play a ghost round [behind closed doors] at the earliest from May 9th. It is clear: a weekend with football is much more bearable than a weekend without football.”
Bayern Munich are four points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga, while RB Leipzig are in third place.
There are nine games left to play and the Bundesliga is therefore in a similar position to the Premier League. They have already started a trial run of training in small groups.
Should the campaign get going by May 9 then the league would seemingly have no problem finishing before the problematic date of June 30 when there could be a wide range of contract and endorsement issues.
