Celtic legend Chris Sutton predicts Love Island winners in surprise twist

Celtic legend Chris Sutton has predicted his Love Island winners despite previously branding the hit dating show "rubbish".

This year's series of Love Island is nearing its conclusion, with the ITV2 programme having just one week left before the winning couple is crowned on August 1. Ahead of next week's finale, former footballer Sutton has surprisingly named the couples he expects to finish in the top three.

That is despite him slamming the show in 2017, telling The Sportsman: "I've got to say. All my boys watch it, right. I wham them for it – I mean come on, there are better things than Love Island. What a load of rubbish!"

During Sunday night's episode, though, Sutton showed his support for the current favourites to win by tweeting: “Davide and Ekin-Su are a great couple…”

One follower later commented on the tweet and asked Sutton to predict his top three for next week's final episode. He replied: "1. Davide Ekin Su, 2. Luca Gemma, 3. Andrew Tasha. Don't say I didn't tell you!"

Some of the former striker's followers were shocked that he was watching the show given his previous comments, with one tweeting: "You're better than that Chris."

Another surprised fan added: "Someone taken your phone Chris?" Meanwhile, a third follower added: "I didn't expect this tweet."

One more joked: "You been hacked?" However, some fans were glad to see that Sutton was enjoying the show, including one who commented: “You’ve made my night, big yin!”

They were joined by another supporter, who compared the couple to Sutton and his former Celtic strike partner Henrik Larsson, tweeting: “The modern day Sutton and Larsson.”

Sutton spent six years in Scotland with Celtic, joining the club in 2000 from Chelsea for just over £8.5million. He went on to score 77 goals in 160 appearances before departing for Birmingham City in 2006.
