Chelsea owner Boehly arrives at training ground hours after Thomas Tuchel sack

Todd Boehly arrived at Chelsea's Cobham training ground to address the first-team squad just hours after wielding the axe on Thomas Tuchel.

The American businessman, 48, put an end to Tuchel's 20-month tenure at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday morning (September 7) following defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Blues' opening Champions League group stage match. Mislav Oršić's first-half strike settled the match in the home side's favour and a lacklustre Chelsea looked out of ideas when trying to fight back for the equaliser.

Boehly, though, had already made up his mind prior to the 1-0 loss in Croatia, informing Tuchel of his imminent sacking via a brutal 10-minute phone call – in which the German begged to keep his job.

And just hours after Tuchel hurriedly cleared his desk and collected his belongings, Boehly was driven into the Cobham complex to hold a meeting with several first-team stars, including Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Cesar Azpilicueta and Raheem Sterling.

According to the Daily Mail, Trevoh Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Wesley Fofana and Carney Chukwuemeka were also amongst the group following Boehly into the Surrey-based training ground where he is believed to have unveiled his plans going forward.

The Blues have already been granted permission by Brighton and Hove Albion to speak to Graham Potter regarding the managerial vacancy. Though the former Ostersunds boss is just one of three high-profile candidates Boehly wishes to speak to with both Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane also high on his hit-list.

Pochettino has been out of work since his departure from PSG at the start of the summer, whilst Zidane is yet to step back into management after stepping down as Real Madrid boss at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
