Chelsea turn their attention to £40m-rated Kyle Walker-Peters

Chelsea enquire about Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters as they urgently look to bolster their defence – but Blues are quoted £40m for the England international

  • Chelsea have registered an interest in signing Kyle Walker-Peters this summer
  • Thomas Tuchel is looking to add another defender to his squad for next season
  • Chelsea failed to sign Matthijs de Ligt, Presnel Kimpembe and Nathan Ake
  • Jules Kounde, another top Blues target, ended up agreeing to join Barcelona
  • Therefore, they have turned their attention to Walker-Peters and Marc Cucurella
  • Walker-Peters impressed Tuchel while playing under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl

Chelsea have registered an interest in signing Kyle Walker-Peters this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to add another defender to his squad ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Blues previously tried to sign Matthijs de Ligt, Presnel Kimpembe, Nathan Ake and Jules Kounde during the summer window, but deals fell through for various reasons.

As a result, the Premier League giants have turned their attention to Southampton’s Walker-Peters, Brighton’s Marc Cucurella and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

Walker-Peters started his career at Tottenham but joined the Saints for a fee of around £12million plus add-ons in August 2020 after a successful loan spell at the club.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is eager to hold onto the 25-year-old – who was called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the first time last season after excelling during the 2021-2022 campaign with Southampton.

His one goal and two assists in the Premier League doesn’t do justice to the full-back’s impressive services last term. He played a pivotal role in Hasenhuttl’s side and picked up interest from several European giants.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for Walker-Peters. However, Southampton have attached a £40million price tag to the defender’s name.

Despite being eager to add another defender to his ranks ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign, it seems unlikely that Tuchel will be willing to pay £40m for the 25-year-old’s services.

That being said, Tuchel is keen to fill the void left by Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen – who left Stamford Bridge on free transfers for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, this summer.

Tuchel is also at risk of losing Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as Barcelona have registered an interest in signing both players before the transfer window ends next month.
