Christian Eriksen hits one million followers as ex-Spurs man joins Man Utd

Christian Eriksen reached more than one million followers on Twitter, just hours after it was announced he had joined Manchester United.

The Dane has been in the 900,000 mark for some time but news the Red Devils had persuaded him to join tipped that number over the edge to a million. Eriksen, 30, had been playing football in Brentford last season, making his return to the Premier League following a period with Inter Milan.

It was an emotional occasion seeing the Denmark international back in action last season, following his brush with death when he suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. And he was not short on offers when his contract at the Community Stadium ran out over the summer. After the news surfaced he would be joining United, Eriksen tweeted a new profile picture featuring an infographic on himself.

It featured a picture of the player clapping with the words: "United is a special club, and I can't wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but do it in the red shirt of United will be amazing feeling."

Eriksen said via the club's site: "Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling."

John Murtough, the side's football director, said: "Christian has been one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe throughout his career. It is no surprise that he had so many options this summer, so we are really happy that he was convinced that this is the right club for him.

"In addition to his outstanding technique, Christian will add valuable experience and leadership skills to the squad, and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits of these qualities on the pitch this coming season and beyond."

Eriksen has played 237 games in the Premier League, netting 52 goals and providing 71 assists in that time.
