When Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United back in the summer, many expected his move to be the club’s ticket to Premier League title glory. However, despite scoring 14 goals this season, things are yet to work out. And with Europa League football next term a possibility, it’s hard to see the 36-year-old hanging around.
United didn’t originally intend to sign Ronaldo back in the summer, instead prioritising deals for Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
Yet when it became clear the forward was going to Manchester City, the Red Devils couldn’t help but get involved.
Ronaldo has scored 14 goals for United across all competitions this term, more than any other player in the team.
But there’s a sense he could leave the Red Devils for a second time if their current crisis fails to subside and his team end up playing in the Europa League next term.
So, with that being the case, Express Sport will now take a look at four clubs he could join at the end of the campaign with things failing to work out.

We’ll start with the obvious.
Ronaldo was actually heavily linked with a return to Real Madrid in the summer, before interest from both City and United surfaced.
Yet while he furiously hit back at suggestions he’d rock up at the Bernabeu again, it’s still a possibility while Carlo Ancelotti is in charge.
Ancelotti and Ronaldo got on so well at the club, with the Portugal international previously referring to his former manager as a ‘big bear, a cute guy and a sensitive person’.
Don’t rule this out. The thought of Kylian Mbappe and Ronaldo playing together would certainly appeal to the France striker.

Six players Liverpool could axe this year
Mbappe leaving PSG appears to be edging closer.
He’s been extremely coy on his future over the past year, with his current contract at the Parc des Princes due to expire in the summer.
PSG, if they lose their prized asset, will want a Galactico name to go alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.
So why not Ronaldo?
They’ve been interested in the past and the chance to play alongside Messi, after years of being rivals, could actually appeal to the United star.
Barcelona chief Joan Laporta recently claimed the Catalan giants were ‘back’ and ready to compete for the biggest players on the planet.
There was recently a mischievous article from Mundo Deportivo, published as a joke, saying Ronaldo could move to the Nou Camp.
Yet Barcelona were actually strongly linked with the player last year at a time where his Juventus future was up in the air.
Ronaldo would upset Real fans with any potential move to Catalonia.
Yet he’s previously revealed he’d never rule out Barcelona, saying in 2015: “There are no certainties in football. Everything is open, all leagues.”
Another place Ronaldo hasn’t ruled out playing in the future is in the MLS.
He previously said: “You never know, but it’s something interesting.
“I consider it, of course, because as I’ve said, soccer there has become better and better, so why not? I think that this is maybe going to be possible.”
LA Galaxy have previously signed big names in David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole.
And the chance to play in Los Angeles, the city of the Hollywood stars, would undoubtedly be appealing in some way.
