Cristiano Ronaldo has scored for Manchester United against Arsenal just days after he tragically lost his newborn son. The Portugal international was missing for the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in midweek. But he’s now netted on his first game since the heartbreaking personal incident.

Manchester United had fallen 2-0 behind against Arsenal after early goals from Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka.

But Ronaldo has now given the Red Devils hope of earning a point.

The Portugal international has endured one of the toughest weeks of his career after the heartbreaking death of his son.

Yet Ronaldo has now shown his outstanding character by scoring for United against Arsenal just days after the tragic incident.

The veteran converted from close range to pull United back into contention after beating Gabriel to the ball.

Now, he’ll be hoping to propel his team to all three points as they look to secure Champions League qualification next season.

Arsenal fans have today paid tribute to Ronaldo and given him their support following this week’s trauma.

They clapped the 37-year-old around the Emirates, with their United counterparts signing their player’s name.

And that comes after Ronaldo had thanked Liverpool fans for a similar gesture during the 4-0 defeat in midweek.

“Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion,” he said on Instagram.

“One world… One sport… One global family… Thanks, Anfield.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo will play under a new manager at United next season.

The club confirmed on Thursday that Erik ten Hag was poised to take over, with the Dutchman happy to leave Ajax for Old Trafford.

And Ralf Rangnick has hailed the appointment, saying: “To start with, I think it’s good that we know who the new permanent manager will be.

“I haven’t met Erik in person but, from what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard from people who have worked with him – I know some people with whom I’ve worked very closely and very intensely with together – that he’s a very communicative, a very modern head coach.

“I think this is a very good choice, probably one of the best, if not the best, choice the club could make.
