Cristiano Ronaldo can play for another four years until he is 40 years of age, believes his former fitness coach.

Ronaldo turned 36 on February 5th and has considerably changed the way he plays.

Despite being a ruthless winger with speed to kill in his younger years, he has adapted his game to suit his body and age.

Now, the Juventus ace plays as a central striker and can score goals for fun in and around the penalty area.

Ronaldo is under contract at Juve until 2022, when he will be 37, but it appears he has no intention of quitting any time soon.

His former fitness coach from his time at Real Madrid, Giovanni Mauri, believes the Portuguese icon can continue going for another four years.

Ronaldo is widely regarded among the best footballers of all time, and has been known for his incredibly physicality and attitude towards the game.

He is reported to have spent £50,000 on a cyrochamber in his home in order to aid muscle recovery and eliminate the risk of injury, while he also doesn’t drink alcohol and eats a strict diet to keep himself in shape.

And speaking to Football Italia, Mauri explained that he believes Ronaldo can follow in the footsteps of other footballing greats and continue for another few years.

“When he arrived in Italy, I said he is a player out of the norm,” he said. “He’s settled in and he continues scoring. He is following the method we proposed him in Madrid where rest is a fundamental part of the training.

“Rest doesn’t only mean to sleep. It’s not passive, but it’s made of specific exercises that aim to reach muscular, mental and articular wellness.”

“I’ve worked with many footballers on their forties, from [Paolo] Maldini to [Alessandro] Costacurta.
