David Beckham begs Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Man Utd in Miami GP plea

Manchester United legend David Beckham has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at the club despite enduring a disastrous season.

Beckham was in attendance at Formula One’s inaugural Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, which is also home to his football club Inter Miami. And the England icon made sure to address the situation surrounding his old club and star man Ronaldo, who could leave in the summer.

Ronaldo has another year left on his contract but his future is uncertain after United's shambolic season and the squad in need of a rebuild. But former Red Devils and England winger Beckham gushed over the “incredible” five-time Ballon d’Or winner before pleading him to stay for “another year or two”.

Beckham told Sky Sports: "Obviously Cristiano is one of the best players over the last 15 years with Lio [Lionel Messi]. To see him stay on, hopefully staying on at United, is important for the fans.

"I think it's important to him, we all know how much Man Utd means to him and he's still doing what he does best – scoring goals and creating.

"That's what Cristiano does and even at his age, to be doing what he's doing, is really incredible so hopefully it continues and hopefully he stays for another year or two."

Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo should stay at Man United beyond the summer? Let us know in the comments section.

Ronaldo, 37, has enjoyed a spectacular individual campaign despite the club’s woeful form throughout the season. He has scored 24 goals for the Red Devils, including hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich.

But United’s lacklustre performances this season have led to increasing speculation that he may leave in the summer. He has up until now remained quiet on his future plans as new managerial appointment Erik ten Hag gets ready to replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

It was also revealed last week that Ronaldo has been discussing his Red Devils future with legendary Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson in private meetings. The Portuguese icon is understood to have enjoyed regular chats with the iconic Red Devils manager over cups of tea at their respective luxury Cheshire homes over the course of this season.
