England and Tottenham star Dele Alli has been hit with an FA charge following a social media post apparently joking about the deadly coronavirus.
The FA had written to Alli earlier this month asking for his observations after he put a video on Snapchat which appeared to mock an Asian man.
The video was filmed at an airport departure lounge with an Asian man in the background while he waited to catch a flight to Dubai during the winter break.
Alli removed the video within minutes.
Spurs ace Alli issued two public apologies and stressed that it was a private post on Snapchat which only his friends could see but someone had leaked to the public.
An FA statement declared: "Dele Alli has been charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to a social media post.
"It is alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s post breaches FA Rule E3(1) as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.
"It is further alleged that the post constitutes an “Aggravated Breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin and/or nationality.
"He has until Thursday 5 March 2020 to provide a response."
