Edinson Cavani ‘open’ to quitting Man Utd in favour of Real Madrid in January

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is reportedly looking to leave the club in January after falling out favour at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old has found it tough to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season due to the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and a knock he suffered early on.

Cavani signed a new one-year deal with the club this summer expecting to be the side’s first choice forward, but was displaced by the 36-year-old legend who also took the iconic no.7 shirt from him.

And now Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims Cavani is open to leaving the club in the January transfer window.

The Uruguayan’s only start of the season came on Saturday against Everton where he was substituted after only 57 minutes.

He is yet to complete a full 90 minutes or register any goals or assists across all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has firmly cemented the position as his own, registering a sensational five goals in seven games.

And with Real Madrid reportedly interested in offering him a six-month loan deal, Cavani could snatch the opportunity come January in an attempt to resurrect his season.

Meanwhile, a six-month deal would suit the Spanish giants as they look for a short-term option before their inevitable pursuit of French star Kylian Mbappe next summer.

Mbappe’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain runs out in June and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing the forward on a pre-contractual agreement.

Cavani would act as a back-up to Karim Benzema or join the front three alongside the Frenchman and the in-form Vinicius Junior if he were to make the move.

Meanwhile, he will be hoping for more opportunities under Solskjaer as he looks to sustain his solid return of 10 goals in 29 appearances for the Red Devils.
