Emile Smith Rowe has a “verbal agreement” to sign a new contract at Arsenal, according to reports. Aston Villa have seen at least two offers turned down by Arsenal for Smith Rowe. Villa’s first offer of £25million was dismissed out of hand earlier this month.

The Villa Park club returned with a second bid of £30m, which was also rejected by the Gunners.

Smith Rowe has just two years remaining on his current contract at the Emirates.

The Arsenal academy graduate became a key member of Mikel Arteta’s side in the second half of last season.

After bursting onto the scene in the Boxing Day win over Chelsea, the 20-year-old started a further 17 Premier League matches before the end of the campaign.

Smith Rowe grabbed two league goals and four assists to attract interest from the likes of Villa.

However, Arsenal are determined to keep hold of the attacking midfielder.

In fact, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Smith Rowe is desperate to sign a new contract with the north London club.

Romano claims there is an agreement between Arsenal and the player that he will sign a new contract when he returns from his summer holiday.

“He’s not signed yet,” Romano told Que Golazo.

“But before Emile was going to holiday this summer, he had like a verbal agreement ready with Arsenal, this is what I know.

“So he’s waiting to come back from holiday and then to meet with Arsenal, complete some details and then sign the new contract with Arsenal.

“So from Smith Rowe’s side, he wants to stay at Arsenal, many times he said about he’s living his dream playing for Arsenal, he wants to stay and Arsenal are so happy with him.”

Romano says the only way Smith Rowe will leave Arsenal is if the Gunners receive an offer they cannot refuse.

He added: “So if someone wants to break the agreement, verbal agreement between Smith Rowe and Arsenal, they need to break the bank.

“So my feeling is that Smith Rowe is staying, and they’re gonna extend this contract because as I said, some weeks ago, it was already prepared.”
