England star and two other players ‘test positive for coronavirus after holiday’

Three Premier League footballers – including an England international – have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus after holidays in the Greek islands.

Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions were already in turmoil following the arrest of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire in Mykonos on Thursday, accused of attacking police officers.

Meanwhile, another England star is reportedly in isolation less than two weeks before the Nations League returns.

According to The Sun, one Three Lions regular, as well as two Sheffield United stars, gave positive tests after they returned to training following trips to Greece earlier this month.

All three players – who have not been named – are understood to have gone into isolation for ten days, in line with the latest government guidelines.

England boss Southgate is still expected to include the player in his squad when he announces the line-up for the upcoming games against Iceland and Denmark on 5 th and 8 th September.

Yet, with uncertainty over Maguire’s place in the camp, this still counts as another blow to Southgate’s preparations for the first England outings in over nine months.

The Premier League also faces being drawn into another coronavirus crisis, amid fears that the trio may prove only the first to come back from trips abroad having been infected.

Sheffield United’s pre-season plans have been hit by their positive tests, with two of their players now having to sit out most of their preparations for the new campaign.

However, the Blades have a couple of extra days to get ready for their opening game at home to Wolves on 14 th September, thanks to their opponents’ European exploits.
