Manchester United are among the clubs who have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland this summer. Haaland has been in prolific goalscoring form this season, netting a total of 35 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions.

The 20-year-old is a transfer target for virtually every top European club and he could depart Dortmund in the summer if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Haaland worked with current Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde and the forward has praised Solskjaer for the impact he had on his career.

Speaking to TV2 in 2019, Haaland said: “He [Solskjaer] has had a huge impact on my life, both as a person and as a trainer.

“He won the Champions League and was an incredibly good player. He has taught me a lot.”

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have made Haaland their top centre-forward target.

The Red Devils have largely used Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial as their central striker this season, but neither player has managed to hit double figures in the Premier League yet.

Given Haaland’s prolific record in front of goal, it seems as though he would be a perfect addition to United and he may well be a perfect fit for Solskjaer’s tactics.

Earlier this month, the 6ft 4in star hit a top speed of 36.04 km/h (22.39 mph) during one of Dortmund’s counter-attacks against Stuttgart.

That was enough to break the Bundesliga’s speed record this season, which had been previously held by Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.

United, meanwhile, have played some of their best football under Solskjaer by hitting teams on the counter and they are joint-top with Leeds when it comes to the most goals scored from counter-attacking moves this season (five).

Given Haaland’s pace and finishing ability, he would surely fit right in at a United team which is so dangerous on the break.

However, with so many clubs also interested in the Norwegian international, United face major competition for his signature.

Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, believes that “only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford” the player, telling BBC Sport: “It is obvious that everybody is looking at Erling as one of those potential new future stars because it’s so difficult to do what he does at his age at his level.

“He will be one of the future stars of the next decade because we see that stars such as Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo and Messi are coming to an age where everyone asks themselves: ‘How long can we still enjoy them?’ So everyone is looking for the new generation.

“Only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford to buy [Haaland] and give the platform you would like after you’ve been in Dortmund… and four of those clubs are in [England].

“I don’t think there’s a sports director or trainer in the world who would say ‘not interested’. It’s like saying: ‘Is there a Formula 1 team who would not be interested in having Lewis Hamilton?'”
