Everton eyeing Philippe Coutinho for a shock summer move from Barca

Everton eyeing Philippe Coutinho for a shock summer move from Barcelona… but ex-Liverpool star’s return to Merseyside is still ‘unlikely’ despite claims the club are already house-hunting for the Brazil playmaker

  • Everton are emerging as shock favourites to sign Philippe Coutinho this summer
  • The former Liverpool man is set to bring an end to his Barcelona nightmare
  • Coutinho became the third most expensive player in the world when he moved
  • Toffees are claimed to already have started house hunting for the Brazilian

Everton are said to be so confident of pulling off a summer move for Philippe Coutinho that a process of house hunting has already begun.

The Brazilian is finally set to call time on his Barcelona nightmare this summer, and the Toffees have emerged as shock contenders for his signature.

However, a source close to Coutinho’s camp has today told Sportsmail that a move to Everton is currently ‘unlikely’ – although that could change ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports claim Everton have already started house hunting for Philippe Coutinho, though sources close to the player insist a move currently remains unlikely – but could change

Coutinho will be placed on the market as cash-strapped Barca desperately try to balance the books and look to reinvest funds into the squad.

Should Coutinho return to Merseyside in the blue of Everton, it would be a move steeped in controversy given the iconic status he achieved during his time at Anfield.

According to the Sun, Everton personnel have already started the process of looking into possible living arrangements for the star.

Barca paid an eye-watering £145m for Coutinho though could let him leave for a pittance

The Brazilian is understood not to have retained property on Merseyside after he left English football for La Liga in January 2018.

Coutinho, 28, has had a miserable time since leaving Anfield for Spain in a record £145m move.

He became the third most expensive player of all time, behind Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, after putting pen to paper on the deal.

Barca are said to be willing to take a vastly reduced fee for Coutinho this summer, with reports suggesting Everton could potentially land his services for as little as £35million.

Coutinho is currently out of action after suffering a horrendous knee injury in December, which appears to have ruled him out for the rest of this season.

The playmaker returned to his home country of Brazil at the end of March for a second operation, and gave an update on his rehabilitation programme earlier this week via social media.

The 28-year-old is likely to miss the rest of the season after a serious knee injury in December

‘Every day is a new battle which demands my best!’ Coutinho wrote on Instagram. ‘The recovery is slow, it requires patience and dedication. Challenges always motivate me.

‘I am working hard and I am convinced that I will return to the best of my ability doing what I love the most.

‘GOD is with me and I am sure those who love me and my work are too! Thanks for all the positivity sent.’
