Premier League manager “lost the dressing room” when he banned his players from eating apple crumble.
Spanish tactician Juande Ramos was the last coach to lead Tottenham to a trophy when he masterminded their 2-1 League Cup final triumph over Chelsea in 2008 after beating Arsenal in the semi-finals.
But ex-Spurs striker Darren Bent, 37, said Ramos bit off more than he could chew when he interfered in players’ diets.
Darren told FourFourTwo magazine: “He just tried to change too much too quickly – it was too extreme. He removed so many things that players were used to and it was really tough.
“Listen, he won us the League Cup and I understand that continental managers have a way of doing things, and expect everyone to be a certain weight, but it was a real shock to the system.
“The apple crumble was the one – the moment he removed that he lost the dressing room!"
Ramos, 66, was sacked eight months after the League Cup final with Spurs bottom of the Premier League without a win in the first eight matches of the new season.
But he went on to manage Real Madrid and CSKA Moscow.
While on talkSPORT last year, Bent detailed how he met new boss Harry Redknapp just seconds after being informed of the departure of Ramos.
He told the Breakfast show: “When I was at Spurs we had Juande Ramos as the manager.
“He got sacked in the evening of a game, and the chairman came in and said: ‘By the way, we’ve sacked Juande Ramos.’

“The next thing we knew Harry Redknapp strolled in and said: ‘Hi Guys, you alright?’
"Out of nowhere we were sitting in this room and he just strolled in – it was the most bizarre thing.
“It was literally 30 seconds after – we didn’t even see Ramos leave, but we saw Harry come in!”
