The FA are confident of lining up an alternative opponent for England after New Zealand pulled out of their international friendly at Wembley next month.
The All Whites were due to face Gareth Southgate's men on November 12 – but have withdrawn due to travel and player complications because of Covid-19.
New Zealand Football (NZF) say the game could "potentially jeopardise" their players' careers.
The FA anticipated the game could be cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic and are in the process of arranging another team to face. The opponent will be announced before the end of this week.
Southgate has just two more England camps ahead of him before next summer's Euros and is keen to keep the fixture in the calendar.
This will not please a host of club managers concerned about the health and fitness of their stars, due to the amount of games they are being forced to play.
But Southgate is running out of chances to run the rule over his players before he has to pick his final squad for the delayed Euro 2020.
A NZF spokesman said: "A number of the team would be subject to quarantine or restrictions on their return home. This would heavily disrupt their domestic seasons.

"The shifting nature of travel restrictions and commercial flight availability under Covid means that we do not have certainty we could assemble a squad at Wembley. Defaulting on this fixture at the last minute is not an option.
"Prior to Covid, we had a full calendar of fixtures planned and we have been proactive in seeking out matches but, unfortunately, it just isn't possible to make the games we have scheduled this year."
