Radamel Falcao's new squad number at Spanish side Rayo Vallencao has fans claiming 'football is dead'.
The Colombian was once considered as one of the finest strikers on the planet, and he appeared on the books of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Atletico Madrid, among others.
However, despite a brief resurgence at Monaco, Falcao has struggled in recent seasons.
And the 35-year-old signed for the La Liga side over the summer to try and reignited his career in Spain, where he had so much success.
But football fans are outraged at his decision to wear the No.3 while playing for Vallencao.
"Football is dead," one fan declared after seeing Falcao with the shirt number on his back.
"Number 3 as in [the] number of matches he'll playing before he gets injured again," another joked.
A third tweeted: "This is the craziest thing that has happened in the last two years."
While a fourth offered: "Why? Is he playing LB? This is awful."
There have been stranger shirt choices before, Cristiano Lupatelli, Chievo Verona's goalkeeper, wore the No.10 shirt after losing a bet to friends.
In a Serie A world that featured other 10s such as Roberto Baggio and Hernan Crespo, Lupatelli stood out being the only keeper to sport the number – and probably the only man ever to sport sideburns with a bald head.
Ronaldinho wore the No.80 at AC Milan due to his birth year, 1980, along with Stephan El Shaarawy who wore 92 for the same reason.
Mohamed Salah decided to wear the No.74 at Fiorentina as a tribute to the 74 fans who lost their lives Port Said disaster.
