Former Man Utd ace Angel Gomes scores stunning goal from halfway line

Former Manchester United star Angel Gomes has started life at his new club in astonishing fashion after a wondergoal from the halfway line.

The midfielder left Old Trafford in the summer after his contract expired despite late attempts from the club to get him to sign.

But Gomes' mind was made up after a season where he was largely sidelined by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Several elite clubs were interested including Barcelona and Chelsea.

However, the 20-year-old has signed for Lille, before being loaned to Boavista in the Primeira Liga – and is already making a huge impact.

The London-born ace caught the eye when he made three assists on his debut against Nacional.

Now he has gone one better – and some more – after his first goal for his new club.

Against Moreirense, Gomes opened the scoring with a ludicrous effort from the halfway line.

Within moments, the strike had gone viral with United fans bemoaning the fact he left so early in his career.

There are a number of talented youngsters at the Red Devils but Gomes was touted as one of the best during his time there.

The likes of Tahith Chong and James Garner have been loaned out while Mason Greenwood is a first-team star.

And United fans were wondering what could have been after Gomes stole the headlines in Portugal.

One said: "I just want to put it out there… Angel gomes who was let go for free by this club is performing and scoring worldies already in the league where BRUNO came from hes only been there for 3 games.

"Hes only 20 years old."

While this fan said: "One of the finest talent thrown away away this stupid board."

A third wrote: "Letting Angel Gomes go on a free is a big L for United, isn't spoken about enough.

"Has the potential to be an elite player."

"Getting rid of Angel Gomes will be a mistake," this fan tweeted.
