Liverpool are reportedly set to unveil Jorg Schmadtke as their new director on a short-term contract as he seeks to help Jurgen Klopp land his top targets in the summer transfer market. The former Wolfsburg, Cologne and Hannover chief has a history with negotiating deals and has slowly earned the respect of his compatriot, Klopp during his time working in the Bundesliga.
Sky Germany are reporting that Schmadtke is set to sign a three-month contract and will focus his efforts on targeting players from the Bundesliga.
It shines an interesting light on Liverpool’s potential transfer business and could indicate they will be doing some shopping in Germany.
Jude Bellingham is expected to join Real Madrid but there are several other players that could hypothetically be of interest to Klopp this summer.
Express Sport analyses four Bundesliga talents that could emerge on Liverpool’s radar following the appointment of Schmadtke.

A player that is highly likely to be out of reach given he is valued at upwards of £90million.
Nonetheless, if Liverpool had the finances then there is no doubt the Croatian would be a player that would improve their current options at the back – particularly with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip’s future up for debate.
Gvardiol has previously been targeted by both Manchester City and Chelsea, who had a £77.4million proposal turned down last August to sign the defender in the summer of 2023.
Schmadtke would need to be a miracle worker to somehow execute this deal for Klopp as it seems highly likely that Gvardiol will be heading elsewhere if he is to leave Leipzig this summer.
Liverpool are prioritising a rebuild in midfield, therefore blowing a large part of their budget on a central defender that may not even be first-choice seems totally illogical.

Now this is a deal where the arrival of Schmadtke could help Liverpool’s cause as they attempt to entice Bayern Munich into a sale.
The Dutchman is thought to be keen on a new challenge despite assurances from Bayern that he is a big part of their future.
Schmadtke could use his network and contacts to engage in dialogue with the Bayern hierarchy to try and unlock a deal that could end up suiting all parties.
Liverpool are certain they wish to sign the former Ajax maestro and the fee should be very much affordable if Bayern reluctantly agree to sell.
A player Schmadtke will know more about than most given he knows the Bundesliga like the back of his hand.
In truth, Neuhaus’ stock has fallen off a cliff in recent times when just a few years ago, he was rated very highly by the likes of Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
Now the Reds need to determine whether he is good enough for their new-look midfield and Schmadtke is the kind of figure that will have the answers.
Neuhaus is only 26 and could reach a new level under a coach of Klopp’s experience and class but his lack of progression in recent times is likely to represent a glaring red flag.
Kamada is one of the Bundesliga’s hottest commodities as he prepares to leave Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Japanese international is being tracked by a host of top European clubs including AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.
So if Schmadtke feels he is worthy of an approach, Liverpool should take his recommendation on board.
There would be no transfer fee involved – just an inflated salary. Kamada ticks boxes for Klopp in the sense he is an attacking midfielder who can create goals and assists but would he elevate the team to the next level? That is not a certainty.
