Gareth Bale sends message to Spurs fans over fellow signing Sergio Reguilon

Gareth Bale has told Tottenham Hotspur fans they should get very excited about fellow new recruit Sergio Reguilon, who he played alongside for several years at Real Madrid.

The duo completed their respective moves to north London on Saturday afternoon, with Bale signing on a season-long loan and Reguilon making a permanent move in a deal worth around £27million.

While Bale’s return has hogged much of the headlines, La Liga’s left-back of the year Reguilon – who won the Europa League while on loan at Sevilla – represents a huge coup.

Although the pair did not play together last season, Bale has known about Real academy graduate Reguilon for some time and has backed him to excite fans and be a big success.

Asked what kind of player Spurs have signed, Bale revealed: ‘He’s an exciting young player.

‘I’ve been with him for a couple of years at Madrid and obviously he did great last year for Sevilla in their season winning the Europa League.

‘So, yeah, he’s an exciting young left-back, very energetic, loves attacking, great delivery.

‘So he’s a great signing and a great addition to the squad and I think everyone will enjoy watching him.’

Speaking about his switch to Tottenham, Reguilon said: ‘I think I am now in the hardest league in the world, the most difficult one. I can’t wait to start this adventure.

‘I talked a lot with Bale, regarding everything: the club, the city, the new stadium and I just can’t wait to start with my teammates.’

Spurs are believed to have agreed to a buyback clause in their deal to sign Reguilon, with Real Madrid able to bring him back to the Bernabeu for a fee in the region of £37m.
