Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Phil Foden is an injury doubt for England’s Euro 2020 final clash against Italy on Sunday.
The midfielder picked up a minor knock and was unable to participate in England’s final training session at St George’s Park on Saturday morning.
The Three Lions are just one victory away from Euro 2020 glory and they will be looking to end Italy’s unbeaten run of 33 games to lift the trophy at Wembley.
England’s squad have arrived in London ahead of the final, and speaking to reporters on Saturday evening, Southgate admitted Foden is ‘definitely doubtful’ for the game.
‘We’ve been on the bus for the last couple of hours so the medical team will give us a final update on that later,’ Southgate said of Foden’s condition.
‘He’s definitely doubtful although it’s not something serious.
‘It’s just a case of whether it will keep him out of this particular game.’
When asked what concerns him most about Sunday’s opponents Italy, Southgate responded: ‘When you are coaching a team you watch everything and you have to decide the most important information for the players and not flood them too much.
‘There are fantastic players all the way through the Italian team, they have a good tactical plan, an experienced coach and are on an amazing run.
‘We have our own strengths. We’ve tried to play to ours and we need to do the same tomorrow.’
