Hakim Ziyech reveals all on Chelsea transfer and opens up on private Frank Lampard texts

Chelsea’s latest signing Hakim Ziyech has explained why he wanted a move to Stamford Bridge while also revealing private chats with Frank Lampard had been on-going for several weeks. The Blues announced earlier this month they had reached a deal worth £33.3million with Ajax to sign Ziyech at the end of the season.

Lampard had targeted a move for Ziyech in the January transfer window, but Ajax were reluctant to let their star man leave midway through the season.

Ajax are still battling at the top of the Eredivisie with Ziyech playing a key role in their title charge.

But from next season he will pulling on the blue shirt at Chelsea as part of Lampard’s new-look squad.

The 26-year-old is a versatile option around the forward positions and has established himself as one of the most creative attackers in European football.

And it’s clear Ziyech has been on the radar of Chelsea for some time now, with the Morocco international admitting to having spoken to Lampard on multiple occasions before a transfer was agreed.

“I’ve been in contact with him for a few weeks now,” Ziyech said.

“At first, mainly by the phone. We had a few long conversations about his approach, the playing style, the club, about me personally. And later on we texted quite a lot.

“He told me he had been following me for a while.

“He gave me a good feeling and that was also big to do with the decision.”

Ziyech also went on to state how Lampard played a big role in his decision to move to Chelsea.

“In his time he was such a big player and he was a midfielder so I can learn a lot from him,” he added.

“In that regard, I have a lot to learn.
