England ace Harry Maguire entered a bar brawl after mistaking plain clothes cops for a gang of yobs attacking his sister, according to reports.
One witness claimed: “Harry went spare after seeing the blood on his sister and then it all kicked off big style.
“It was a nasty wound. Harry reacted just like anyone would if they saw a member of their family being attacked.”
Plain-clothes officers who were on patrol in the area rushed to stop the brawl – but Maguire is said to have mistaken the police for the attackers and lashed out at them.
The witness added: “Once Harry realised the police were not part of the original group he tried to explain what had happened.
“But because one of the officers had been hurt they weren’t having it and he was taken to the station with the others.”
The 27-year-old Manchester United captain appeared in court in Syros on Saturday following the incident on Thursday night.
It is believed Maguire was taunted by rival football supporters, which culminated in his sister Daisy being stabbed in the arm with a "sharp object."
Things are then said to have escalated, with a mass brawl erupting, and when police arrived to break things up Maguire was reportedly "verbally abusive to an officer and then hit him."
After spending two nights in a cell he and his two friends, aged 28 and 29, appeared in court but are now free to return to the UK ahead of a hearing on Tuesday which they are not required to attend.
On Saturday, Maguire and the others pleaded not guilty to a string of charges as they were grilled by a local prosecutor for almost two hours.
If convicted, Maguire could pay a daily sum to avoid being sent to jail under a scheme to ease overcrowding in Greek jails – believed to be around £90k in total.
